I’ve used GoPros for years—through snow, surf, and sweat—and I’m tired of pretending the overheating problem is just a fluke. Every time I push the camera hard, whether recording 4K at 60fps or timelapses in the sun, it throttles down or shuts off. It’s not rare. It’s routine. And yet, GoPro keeps rolling out new models like the Mission 1 Pro, hyping image quality and stabilization, while the core thermal issue remains untouched.
As a creator, I need reliability, not just marketing. The Mission 1 Pro might be “fantastic” on paper, but if it still overheats after 15 minutes of use in moderate conditions, what good is it? I’ve swapped batteries, used external cooling, updated firmware—nothing fixes the root cause. It feels like GoPro is prioritizing flash over function, chasing specs while ignoring the daily frustrations of the people who actually use these cameras in the field.
The timing couldn’t be worse. With GoPro reportedly noncompliant with NASDAQ listing requirements and facing financial strain, one would think fixing long-standing user pain points would be a priority. Instead, we get incremental upgrades wrapped in glossy launches. Is this innovation, or just iteration without accountability?
