I’ve used GoPro cameras for years — from the Hero 3 to the latest Mission 1 Pro — and I’m done pretending the overheating problem is getting better. It’s not. Every new release feels like the same old story: shiny specs, bold marketing, and then the camera shuts down mid-shoot because it can’t handle basic use in warm conditions.

The recent FPV drone flight over Niagara Falls, captured with the Mission 1 Pro, looked stunning — no doubt about that. But behind the glossy footage is a reality many creators know too well: push the camera hard, especially in continuous 4K or high-frame-rate modes, and it starts throttling or shutting off to cool down. No amount of new software tweaks or marketing spin fixes the physics of cramming high-performance sensors into a tiny, sealed body.

GoPro keeps launching new models like they’re solving the problem, but the core issue remains unaddressed. We’re not asking for miracles — just a camera that can record longer than 20 minutes without needing a break. Is it too much to expect reliability from a brand built for action?

If you’ve had a GoPro overheat on you during a shoot — whether on a drone, bike, or surfboard — I want to hear from you. Drop a comment. Let’s see if this is just me, or if we’re all tired of waiting for a fix.
