I’ve lost count of how many times my GoPro has shut down mid-adventure due to overheating. Whether hiking in moderate heat or filming a kid’s soccer game on a sunny afternoon, the camera inevitably overheats, powers off, and takes valuable footage with it. It’s not a fluke—it’s a pattern I’ve experienced across multiple models, and it’s left me frustrated and wary.

These aren’t isolated incidents. GoPro’s overheating problems are well-documented in real-world use, especially during extended 4K recording or in warm conditions. The thermal throttling kicks in fast, and there’s little warning before the screen goes black. For creators who rely on capturing authentic moments, that kind of failure isn’t just inconvenient—it’s unacceptable.

Because of this, the only scenario where I’d even consider trying new GoPro hardware is if they sent it to me for free. And even then, I wouldn’t trust it for important shots—no weddings, no travel documentaries, nothing where losing footage could ruin a project. My trust is gone, and no marketing campaign will win it back.

Instead, I’ve turned to DJI and Insta360 for my action cam needs. Their devices handle heat better, offer more consistent performance, and haven’t let me down in the field. For active creators who need reliability, these brands deliver what GoPro too often fails to provide: peace of mind. I no longer recommend GoPro products to anyone serious about their craft.
