I’ve used GoPros for years – from mountain biking trails to underwater shoots – and I’ve lost count of how many times the camera shut down mid-action due to overheating. It’s not a fluke; it’s a pattern. The GoPro Hero 12 Black, now priced at Rs. 27,999 in India as of October 23, 2026, might look tempting on paper, but my personal experience tells me otherwise. I’ve had footage vanish because the device throttled or powered off in 30°C heat, even with minimal recording time. GoPro’s known overheating issues aren’t just forum chatter – they’ve cost me real work.

Even if GoPro sent me the Hero 12 Black for free today, I wouldn’t mount it on a critical shoot. Trust is earned through reliability, not marketing specs. I’ve switched to DJI Action 4 and Insta360 X4 for high-stakes content – they handle heat better, shut down less, and don’t make me sweat over whether I’ll get the shot. The Hero 12 Black’s price drop doesn’t fix a fundamental flaw: thermal management that fails when creators need it most.

I no longer recommend GoPro products to fellow creators. Not after losing irreplaceable footage to a shutdown in the middle of a descent, a surf session, or a timelapse under the sun. Until GoPro proves it can solve this – not with firmware patches, but with hardware that doesn’t cook itself – I’m sticking with brands that let me focus on creating, not babysitting a camera that’s too hot to handle. For now, Rs. 27,999 feels like a discount on disappointment.
