As someone who’s spent years creating content outdoors—from mountain biking trails to coastal shoots—I’ve learned the hard way that reliability isn’t just nice to have; it’s everything. And after multiple incidents where my GoPro shut down mid-record due to overheating, losing irreplaceable footage, I can no longer recommend the brand to fellow creators.

It’s not an isolated fluke. GoPro’s overheating problem is well-documented across forums, reviews, and real-world use. Even in moderate temperatures, extended recording—especially at higher resolutions—can trigger thermal throttling or full shutdowns. I’ve missed key moments because the camera simply gave up, leaving me with gaps in my story and zero confidence in the device when it mattered most.

The worst part? There’s no warning. One second you’re rolling; the next, the screen goes black. No save, no recovery—just lost time and frustration. For creators who depend on capturing authentic, spontaneous moments, that’s unacceptable.

GoPro would have to hand me their latest model for free before I’d even consider testing it again. And even then, I wouldn’t trust it for anything important—no paid gigs, no once-in-a-lifetime events, nothing where failure isn’t an option. My skepticism isn’t born from hate; it’s earned through repeated letdowns.

These days, I’ve switched to DJI and Insta360 for my action cam needs. Their thermal management feels more consistent, and I haven’t faced the same abrupt shutdowns. Until GoPro proves it’s fixed this core flaw—not with marketing, but with real-world durability—I’ll keep my distance. For creators who value peace of mind over brand loyalty, the choice is clear.
