Meta has confirmed that the final major operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets will be released by March 2027. This update, designated as version 213, marks the end of scheduled OS feature upgrades for these widely used consumer VR devices. After this point, Meta will no longer deliver new functionality or performance enhancements through OS updates.

Despite the end of feature updates, Meta emphasized that it will continue to provide essential security patches and critical bug fixes for both headsets beyond March 2027. This ongoing support aims to maintain device safety and basic operability for users who rely on the hardware for gaming, social interaction, and creative work.

For content creators, this timeline offers a clear window for planning long-term projects involving Quest 2 or Pro hardware. Knowing that core software evolution ends in 2027 allows developers and immersive artists to stabilize their builds around the v213 OS baseline while still benefiting from vital security maintenance.

The decision reflects Meta’s strategic shift toward newer VR hardware, particularly the Quest 3 and upcoming mixed-reality devices. While older models remain functional, creators targeting cutting-edge features may need to consider upgrading to access future OS innovations and performance improvements tied to next-gen silicon.

Creators using Quest 2 or Pro for education, virtual events, or indie game development should factor this support lifecycle into their roadmap. Meta’s commitment to security updates ensures continued usability, but the absence of new OS features means innovation on these platforms will depend increasingly on app-level updates rather than system-wide advancements.
