TikTok has clarified its AI disclosure requirements, mandating labels for both organic posts and paid advertisements that feature synthetic or manipulated media. According to the platform’s updated policy effective November 2026, any content generated or significantly altered using AI tools — including deepfakes, voice cloning, or AI-generated visuals — must be clearly labeled by creators before publishing. This applies regardless of whether the AI use is minor or central to the content.

The policy aims to increase transparency and combat misinformation while still allowing creative AI use. Creators who fail to label AI-generated or altered content risk having TikTok apply an automatic label, which may appear less prominently or disrupt the viewer experience. To maintain control over how disclosures appear, creators are encouraged to use TikTok’s built-in labeling tool during the upload process.

Not all AI-assisted edits require labeling. Minor enhancements like color correction, background noise reduction, or standard filters powered by AI — where the core content remains authentically captured — are exempt from disclosure. However, if AI is used to generate scenes, alter facial features, synthesize speech, or create fictional scenarios, labeling becomes mandatory.

For creators running branded content or ads, the same rules apply. Sponsored videos featuring AI-generated products, avatars, or virtual influencers must include clear disclosures to comply with both TikTok’s policies and advertising standards. Proactive labeling not only ensures compliance but also builds audience trust by being transparent about content origins. As AI integration grows across creative workflows, understanding these boundaries helps creators innovate responsibly while avoiding penalties or reduced reach. Staying informed and using TikTok’s native tools remains the best practice for seamless adherence.
