I’ve been in the creator game for years, and for a long time, GoPro was the gold standard in my kit. But after cycling through multiple generations of their gear, I’m tired of the same story. Every few years, a new model drops with a shiny marketing campaign, yet the core frustrations—specifically the persistent overheating issues—seem to follow us from one version to the next.

It feels like we are stuck in a loop. As creators, we need reliability. Instead, we get incremental updates that don't seem to address the fundamental stability of the hardware. It’s frustrating to invest in a brand that keeps pushing "new and improved" models while the basic functional flaws remain a point of contention for those of us actually using these cameras in the field.

Looking at the business side of things, it seems GoPro is facing a unique dilemma. According to a recent analysis by ColdFusion, the company encountered a significant business problem because their customers actually kept their cameras for years. While that sounds like a testament to durability, it created a stagnation in their sales cycle.

From a creator's perspective, this is a paradox. The cameras last physically, but the software and thermal management feel like they are perpetually lagging. GoPro is trying to solve a business problem regarding how often people upgrade, but they should be focusing on solving the technical problems that make us hesitant to upgrade in the first place.

I want to remain fair—GoPro essentially defined the action camera category. But at what point does "industry standard" become an excuse for stagnant problem-solving? We shouldn't have to cross our fingers and hope the camera doesn't shut down mid-take just because it's a warm day.

I can't be the only one feeling this. Have you experienced the same overheating headaches across different GoPro generations? Are you still buying into the new models, or have you finally had enough? Let me know in the comments.
