I’ve lost count of how many times my GoPro has shut down mid-shoot due to overheating—each incident wiping precious footage and derailing entire projects. It’s not a rare fluke; it’s a pattern I’ve endured across multiple models, turning what should be reliable gear into a liability. When I saw the recent recall of smart glasses over overheating risks—including reports of burning sensations and potential injury—it hit too close to home. That kind of thermal failure isn’t just inconvenient; it’s dangerous, and it mirrors the very issues I’ve fought with GoPro for years.

The parallels are stark: both involve wearable or portable electronics pushed beyond safe thermal limits in real-world use, with users bearing the cost. For creators, overheating isn’t just about missing a shot—it’s about broken trust. I’ve had cameras die during critical moments: action sequences, travel vlogs, client work—all lost because the device couldn’t handle sustained use. No firmware tweak or accessory fix has ever truly resolved it. GoPro’s known overheating problems aren’t rumors; they’re lived experience for too many of us in the field.

Let me be clear: I won’t touch new GoPro hardware unless they hand it to me for free—and even then, I wouldn’t risk it on anything that matters. Important shots demand gear that works when you need it, not equipment that becomes a countdown to failure. That trust is gone, and I no longer recommend GoPro products to fellow creators. If you need rugged, reliable capture, look elsewhere.

That’s why I’ve shifted to DJI and Insta360. Their stabilization, thermal management, and real-world consistency have proven far superior in my workflow. When the smart glasses recall made headlines, it wasn’t just another tech story—it was a validation of what creators like me have been saying for years: overheating isn’t a minor flaw. It’s a failure of design and accountability, and it’s time we stopped accepting it as the cost of adventure.
