FBI Deputy Director Chris Raia has warned that drone attacks similar to those seen in Ukraine and the Middle East are likely to reach the United States, stating it is “only a matter of time.” Speaking to Fox News Digital, Raia emphasized that while much attention focuses on banned foreign-made drones, the more immediate threat may come from low-cost, commercially available aircraft controlled via cellular networks. These systems, which can be operated remotely over long distances using standard mobile infrastructure, pose a unique challenge for detection and interception.

Raia’s comments highlight a shift in concern from hardware bans to operational vulnerabilities. Unlike larger military drones, small cellular-linked UAVs are difficult to track using traditional radar and can be flown by individuals with minimal technical expertise. This accessibility raises alarms for public spaces, events, and critical infrastructure—areas where content creators frequently operate. The FBI official did not specify which technologies or manufacturers are of concern but stressed that the ease of access and control makes such devices attractive to lone actors.

For creators who rely on drones for photography, videography, and live streaming, the warning underscores the importance of responsible use and awareness of evolving security landscapes. As regulatory scrutiny increases, operators may face new restrictions or monitoring requirements, particularly in sensitive zones. Staying informed about federal guidance and adhering to FAA and local laws will be essential to maintaining safe and legal flight practices in an environment where drone misuse could prompt broader crackdowns.
