Uber Chief Product Officer Sachin Kansal recently spoke with TechCrunch about the company’s evolving priorities, emphasizing a shift away from trying to serve every possible use case. Instead, Uber is doubling down on core areas like robotaxis, hotel integrations, and financial services — moves that could indirectly impact how creators access transportation, lodging, and payment tools for travel-based content.

Kansal highlighted the progress of Uber’s AV Labs, a dedicated data operation supporting its autonomous vehicle initiatives, including its complex but ongoing partnership with Waymo. While the relationship remains complicated, Uber continues to invest in AV technology as a long-term pillar of its mobility strategy.

On the hospitality front, Uber is expanding hotel partnerships to streamline bookings and ground transport for travelers — a development that may benefit creators who frequently travel for events, shoots, or collaborations. These integrations aim to offer a more seamless door-to-door experience within the Uber app.

Artificial intelligence is also beginning to surface in tangible ways for both riders and drivers, according to Kansal. Though specific features weren’t detailed, the implication is that AI-driven tools — such as smarter routing, dynamic pricing, or support automation — could enhance reliability and efficiency for creators relying on Uber for logistics.

Importantly, Uber is resisting the pressure to become “everything for everyone.” Kansal framed this focus as a strength, allowing the company to allocate resources more effectively toward high-impact areas. For creators, this means fewer scattered experiments and more reliable, purpose-built services in mobility, travel, and potentially AI-assisted workflows — without overreach into unrelated verticals.
