Dropout announced its first dedicated animated project, Toonout, with a teaser trailer earlier this year. The series launched March 24, 2026, releasing a new cartoon short every other Tuesday through February 23, 2027, a full year of programming in a format the comedy streamer had previously only flirted with through animated clips of Game Changer and Dimension 20.

The pitch is variety: long shorts, short shorts, weird shorts and intimate shorts, with key art showing a range of animation styles. The first six installments come from Raj Brueggemann, Victor Courtright, Jonathon Wallach, Kay Hayes, Violaine Briat and Matt Braly, a crew with credits across Big City Greens, Monsters at Work, Thundercats Roar and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Braly, the creator of Disney Channel’s Amphibia, is the biggest name of the initial crop.

Toonout arrives as Dropout scales every part of its slate. Make Some Noise returned for season 5 on October 5, 2026, Very Important People launches its second season November 7, and the Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared licensing deal added the service’s first acquired series. Animation gives Dropout a format with infinite casting flexibility and no location costs, a useful hedge for a subscription service funding ambitious live productions.

For creators, the takeaway is that buyers exist for short animation again. A year-long biweekly order from a funded streamer is the kind of commission independent animators rarely see, and the credits list shows Dropout hiring working TV animators rather than only internet natives. Animators with a distinctive short should treat Dropout as a pitch target, not just a platform to admire from the audience.
