Meta is retiring its standalone access verification process for third-party app developers, the company announced on October 11, 2026. The change means developers will no longer go through a separate access review step when building apps that integrate with Meta’s platforms. Instead, access will be granted through the existing Business Verification and App Review processes.
This update aims to reduce redundancy in Meta’s developer onboarding workflow. By consolidating access checks into Business Verification—which confirms a developer’s identity and business legitimacy—and App Review—which evaluates how an app uses Meta’s APIs and data—the company seeks to create a clearer, more efficient path to approval.
For creators and small businesses building tools on Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, this could mean faster setup times and fewer procedural hurdles. Meta says the change does not lower security or compliance standards; rather, it removes duplicative steps while maintaining oversight through its core verification systems.
The shift reflects Meta’s broader effort to simplify its developer ecosystem as more creators launch custom integrations, analytics tools, and commerce features. By aligning access with established review channels, Meta hopes to support innovation without compromising platform safety.
Developers are encouraged to ensure their Business Verification is current and to prepare their apps for App Review under the updated flow. Meta will provide guidance through its Developer Center as the change rolls out. No timeline for full implementation was specified in the announcement.
