Vimeo’s AI Push: Ask Your Library, Review 2.0 and Licensed AI Backgrounds

Vimeo used its REFRAME conference to lay out an AI strategy aimed at professional video creators, centered on making entire video libraries searchable, reviewable and monetizable by machines as well as people. The headline beta is Ask Your Library, which searches whole video collections with natural language, understanding context rather than just keywords, so a creator can ask a question and land on the exact moment that matters.

Tied to it is Vimeo MCP, a Model Context Protocol integration that hooks video libraries directly to large language models and AI agents for custom workflows beyond Vimeo’s platform. Answer Engine Optimization auto-generates metadata, chapters and titles so content surfaces better across web search and AI answer engines. On the workflow side, Review 2.0, in closed beta with a wide release planned for November, offers time-stamped commenting, customizable review pages and native Adobe Premiere Pro integration for client and team feedback.

Vimeo also unveiled a marketplace for licensed AI video backgrounds, live for select creators and agencies since June 2026 with a public launch slated for August. The marketplace gives buyers a legally vetted path to synthetic backgrounds while opening a revenue stream for creators who produce original AI backgrounds and document their workflows, with real-time customization, API integrations and enterprise licensing planned for the fourth quarter.

The takeaway for video professionals is that discoverability now has two audiences: humans and AI systems. Enabling Answer Engine Optimization-style metadata, keeping libraries organized for natural-language search, and treating review as part of the hosted workflow rather than a side thread all compound. Creators producing AI backgrounds should document their process now, since provenance is becoming the currency of the licensed synthetic media market.
