Viltrox is reportedly developing a new PL to L mount adapter that aims to bring autofocus functionality to cinema PL lenses. According to a report from PhotoJoseph on MSN dated October 5, 2026, the adapter is currently in development and could enable creators to use legacy cine lenses on modern L-mount mirrorless cameras with autofocus capabilities. This innovation targets filmmakers and content creators who value the optical character of PL lenses but desire the convenience of autofocus in fast-paced shooting environments.

The adapter would bridge the gap between traditional cine optics and contemporary mirrorless systems, potentially reducing the need for manual focus pulling in dynamic scenes. While specific technical details such as compatibility, focus speed, or electronic communication protocols have not been disclosed, the concept aligns with growing demand for versatile lens solutions in hybrid photography and videography workflows.

Viltrox, known for its range of lens adapters and affordable optics, appears to be expanding into more advanced adapter technology with this project. If successfully released, the PL to L AF adapter could offer a cost-effective path for creators to modernize their existing cine lens investments without sacrificing image quality. The development reflects broader industry trends toward adapting legacy glass for use with newer camera systems through intelligent adapter design.

As of the report date, the adapter remains in development, with no official launch date, pricing, or full compatibility list announced. Creator Newsdesk will monitor for updates from Viltrox regarding this emerging tool for cinematographers and hybrid shooters.
