Final Cut Pro 13 appears to be on the way, after a YouTuber accidentally published and then privatized a video touting the major update, revealing a chapter list of incoming features. Spotted by Reddit users and reported by AppleInsider on October 1, the leak points to a significant version bump arriving as soon as this month, likely alongside new Mac hardware expected before year end.
The chapter markers call out several long-requested additions: expanded language support for transcriptions, improved Pixelmator Pro round-trip editing, a new Natural Motion Blur tool, pinch-to-zoom and viewer controls, clip disconnection, and keyframe easing. The Pixelmator round trip is the notable workflow change. Final Cut Pro can already send a frame to Pixelmator Pro for editing, but only as a still image export; the new implementation is described as a genuine round trip that reinserts the edited frame into the timeline.
Natural Motion Blur and keyframe easing suggest Apple is investing in animation controls, an area where Final Cut has historically trailed After Effects and Motion. Combined with the AI features Apple added in June, including on-device Generate Captions, Edit Detection that splits rendered video back into timeline clips, and Auto Mask for isolating subjects without manual tracking, the picture is of an editor steadily closing its motion-graphics and automation gaps.
Context matters: Final Cut Pro 12.4 shipped September 29 with Cinematic mode effects for iPhone 18 Pro footage, and Final Cut Camera 2.4 added variable aperture control and clean SDI output. A version 13 so soon after would be an unusually fast cadence, which lends some weight to the idea that Apple is timing it to new hardware, reportedly including a touchscreen MacBook Pro with OLED.
For editors, the takeaway is to hold off on workflow decisions until the announcement lands. If the Pixelmator round trip and transcription expansion are real, thumbnail and social-cutting workflows get simpler; if Natural Motion Blur delivers, some After Effects round trips disappear. Treat the leak as a planning signal, not a promise, and keep current projects on the stable 12.4 release.
