I Won’t Trust GoPro Again After Repeated Overheating Failures

As a creator who relies on gear to capture critical moments, I’ve been burned too many times by GoPro’s overheating problems. During shoots, my cameras have shut down unexpectedly—sometimes mid-action—resulting in lost footage I couldn’t recover. This isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a pattern I’ve experienced across multiple models, confirming what many users report: GoPro devices struggle with thermal management in real-world use.

The frustration isn’t just about inconvenience—it’s about trust. When a camera fails during a key shot, it undermines the entire creative process. I’ve missed irreplaceable moments because the device couldn’t handle extended recording, even in moderate conditions. GoPro’s marketing emphasizes durability and performance, but the reality often falls short, especially when pushed beyond short clips.

Because of this, I no longer recommend GoPro products to fellow creators. The risk of failure outweighs any benefits, particularly for professional or important personal projects. If GoPro were to send me new hardware for free, I might test it out of curiosity—but I still wouldn’t trust it for anything that matters. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me repeatedly, and I’m done.

Instead, I’ve shifted to alternatives like DJI and Insta360, which have consistently delivered better thermal performance and reliability in my workflow. Their cameras handle longer recordings without throttling or shutting down, giving me the confidence to focus on creating, not babysitting gear. For creators who can’t afford lost footage, the choice is clear.
