League City Police Department is set to launch a Drone as First Responder (DFR) program by December 2026, following city council approval of a pilot agreement with Motorola Solutions. The initiative centers on the use of BRINC aircraft, designed for rapid deployment in emergency situations. The program aims to enhance public safety response times by integrating drone technology into standard operating procedures.

Under the agreement, the first year of the program will be provided at no cost to the city, allowing League City to evaluate the system’s effectiveness before committing long-term. If the city chooses to continue, the contract could extend for up to six years, with a total potential value of $1,759,980. This structure supports a low-risk entry into advanced public safety tech.

The BRINC drones used in the program are built for indoor and outdoor operations, featuring capabilities such as two-way communication, thermal imaging, and obstacle avoidance—tools that can assist officers in assessing scenes before arrival. While specific operational details aren’t disclosed, the focus remains on improving situational awareness and officer safety.

Motorola Solutions, known for its public safety technology ecosystem, is positioning the BRINC platform as part of a broader suite of tools for law enforcement. The pilot reflects growing interest among municipalities in adopting drone-based first response models, particularly in suburban and urban environments where speed and precision matter.

League City’s move aligns with a national trend of police departments exploring DFR programs to complement traditional emergency response. By leveraging drone tech, agencies aim to reduce response delays, gather real-time intelligence, and allocate resources more efficiently during critical incidents. The December launch timeline gives the department several months to finalize training, protocols, and community outreach.
