LIT Systems has pushed a significant update to the public beta firmware for its LIT DUO 1 all-in-one light and color meter. The new LIT OS 0.9 beta4 is now available for testing, bringing several professional-grade measurements and performance improvements to filmmakers and content creators using the device.

The core update focuses on enhanced spectral analysis. According to the release notes, the firmware delivers a 2.5x higher spectrum measuring resolution than previous versions. For creators working with color, this means more granular and detailed data about the light hitting their scene.

Building on this improved resolution, the update introduces two key color rendering metrics. Users can now access CRI (Color Rendering Index) and SSI (Spectral Similarity Index) readings directly from the meter. These tools are critical for evaluating light source quality and ensuring consistency, especially when mixing different types of fixtures.

Exposure workflow also gets a new utility. A ΔEV (delta EV) mode has been added as a submode. This feature is designed to measure the difference in exposure values between two points or light sources, a common task when balancing key, fill, and practical lights on set. LIT Systems notes that overall measurement speed across the device has also been increased.

It’s important to emphasize that this is a public beta release (version 0.9). As such, users should expect potential bugs and understand that features may change before a final, stable launch. The update is available for users to test and provide feedback, helping shape the final version of the LIT DUO 1's operating system. Creators invested in precision color and exposure work now have a more powerful set of tools to evaluate during this testing phase.
