YouTube unveiled a sweeping set of AI tools for creators at its Made on YouTube event in New York on September 23, headlined by a conversational editing assistant for Shorts and the YouTube Create app. The annual creator event also brought AI draft feedback in YouTube Studio, dynamic thumbnails, expanded A/B testing and stronger likeness protection, alongside shopping and viewer features.
The Gemini-powered editing assistant is the centerpiece for creators. Inside Shorts and YouTube Create, a creator describes an edit in ordinary language, receives a first draft, and keeps chatting to refine it: trimming pauses, rearranging clips to improve pacing, syncing music to the beat. YouTube says creators keep the option to edit manually, and hundreds of thousands of channels were already using Gemini in the apps daily as of August. No launch date or country list has been published yet.
YouTube Studio’s AI expansion targets packaging and strategy. Ask Studio, now on iOS and Android, gives personalized feedback on unpublished drafts covering pacing, structure and storytelling, generates thumbnails and titles matched to a channel’s style, and explains analytics beyond raw numbers. A new research feed shows what content is working on the platform. Creators have run more than 40 million title and thumbnail A/B tests since the feature’s 2024 launch; soon they will be able to test up to three video cuts to see which opening hook retains best, and Studio will eventually monitor thumbnail performance and swap underperformers automatically.
The likeness system is coming to mobile, where creators can enroll, receive match alerts and take action against unauthorized use of their image, with voice detection being combined with facial matching. An opt-in AI comment moderation test adapts to each creator’s preferences.
For creators, the takeaway is to prepare for a Studio that acts like a strategist. Start thinking in testable units now: three thumbnail variants, three hooks, three titles per video. The creators who already work that way will slot straight into the new tooling; those who publish on instinct will find the platform increasingly optimizing around them rather than for them.
