YouTube has passed 1 billion monthly podcast viewers, a scale that makes it the largest single discovery surface for podcasting even as dedicated audio apps keep their loyalists. The platform launched Weekly Podcast Shows charts in May 2025 to recognize that audience, and its podcast analytics now group metrics by show rather than by channel, with badges and tabs improving show visibility.

The monetization infrastructure is catching up to the audience. YouTube is testing dynamic ad insertion specifically for podcasts, which would let creators sell swappable ad slots inside episodes similar to what podcast hosting platforms offer for audio distribution. Partner Program creators can already monetize podcasts through audio and video ads, channel memberships, Supers and gifted memberships, plus disclosed paid sponsorships declared on the podcast details page.

Premium is part of the push. New Premium podcast tools, including an Ask Music feature for podcasts rolling out on Android with iOS to follow, aim to capture audio listeners with on-the-go modes, adaptive playback speed and motion-aware audio. Auto-dubbing in 27 languages with Expressive Speech opens international audiences for spoken-word shows, and Shorts clipped from episodes link back to full shows.

The takeaway for podcasters is to treat YouTube as the top of the discovery funnel rather than a mirror of the RSS feed. Structure episodes with chapters and strong thumbnails, since creators report higher engagement on both, and clip answer-focused moments as Shorts that route viewers to full episodes. With dynamic ad insertion in testing, building the YouTube audience now positions the show for a new ad product when it ships.
