YouTube Shopping Affiliate Opens to Channels With 500 Subscribers

YouTube lowered the barrier to its Shopping affiliate program on March 27, 2026, opening product tagging to creators in the expanded YouTube Partner Program tier with as few as 500 subscribers. The change removed the previous 10,000-subscriber threshold and tied eligibility to YPP membership instead, which at the lower tier means 500 subscribers plus 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views over 90 days.

The program has kept expanding since. On August 6, 2026, the United Kingdom became the fifteenth affiliate market, with eligible British creators able to tag products from Wayfair, Currys, Debenhams, Boots, Marks and Spencer, and Etsy across long-form video, Shorts and live streams. On August 27, 2026, YouTube expanded its Amazon integration so eligible US creators can tag Amazon products directly in videos, Shorts and livestreams, with Amazon supplying a curated catalog and creators able to request missing products.

There are mechanics worth knowing before counting the revenue. Amazon commissions lock on a monthly cycle and pay out through AdSense roughly two cycles later, returned products are deducted from the balance, and creators currently see only daily aggregate clicks, sales and estimated revenue in Studio, with no product-level or video-level breakdown.

The takeaway is that small channels now have a monetization lever that used to require scale. A 600-subscriber review channel can earn affiliate commission from its first tagged video, which changes the math on whether niche product content is worth producing. Start with the products already featured on camera, keep recommendations genuine since trust drives the click-through, and track which videos convert so future content follows the money.
