Spotify Activates Video Distribution API for Five Hosting Platforms

Spotify has activated its video distribution API for five podcast hosting platforms, letting creators push video episodes directly to Spotify from their existing hosting workflows. Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans and Podspace have completed the integration, with more partners in progress, and Apple HTTP Live Streaming support is coming to Spotify for Creators and Megaphone later this year.

The move extends video podcast monetization beyond Spotify’s own hosted tools. Creators on the five platforms can now distribute video to Spotify without changing hosts and earn through the Spotify Partner Program, which combines Premium subscriber engagement payouts with ad revenue from free-tier users. For shows already producing video for YouTube, the API removes the last workflow excuse for skipping Spotify.

The infrastructure play is part of Spotify’s broader video push. The company lowered Partner Program thresholds in January, expanded the program to 35 new markets in September, and reports video podcast consumption up 140 percent since 2022. Video is no longer an experiment on the platform; it is the growth engine, and the API is the plumbing that lets the rest of the industry connect to it.

For podcasters, the practical question is whether your host is on the list. If you are on one of the five integrated platforms, check your host’s documentation for the video distribution toggle and test it with your next episode. If not, ask your host about their integration timeline, because manual uploading is a tax you will pay on every episode until the API arrives.

The takeaway is to treat video as a distribution format, not a separate show. Record video for every episode, even a simple static-camera setup, distribute it through the API where available, and let the Partner Program’s video payouts stack on top of your existing audio revenue. The creators who already have a video back catalog will feel the October market expansion most.
